Keratin Treatment Aftercare

Keratin and smoothing treatments help reduce frizz, add shine, and improve the manageability of your hair. Proper aftercare is essential to maintain the longevity of the treatment and keep your hair smooth and healthy.

Washing Your Hair

After receiving a keratin or smoothing treatment, do not wash your hair for at least 48 hours.

This allows the treatment to properly set and ensures the best long-term results.

Shampoo Recommendations

To maintain your keratin treatment, it is important to use sulphate-free shampoos only, as sulphates can strip the treatment from your hair and reduce its longevity.

All Kevin Murphy shampoos are sulphate-free and safe to use with keratin treatments.

Swimming & Water Exposure

Avoid swimming in chlorine or salt water after your keratin treatment, as this can strip the keratin from your hair and reduce the longevity of the treatment.

If swimming is unavoidable, we recommend wetting your hair with clean water first and applying conditioner to create a barrier before entering the pool or ocean.

Conditioning & Hydration

Conditioners and hair masks generally do not contain sulphates, so you may use any nourishing conditioner or mask.
